I am the deputy sister in the Department of Infection. I have worked within the department for eight years and have a keen interest in the HIV speciality and how it has moved forward over the years in relation to improvements and developments in treatments and testing, as well as the development of the co-infection clinics we also run at Birmingham Heartlands HIV service.
I have many nursing qualifications and also hold a City and Guilds NVQ4 phlebotomy qualification. Before joining the HIV Service team I worked for ten years at the Birmingham Skin Centre. My knowledge of dermatology is still useful within our department, as we also have a dermatology clinic once a month. I have won a prize at the NHIVNA conference in Birmingham for a poster presentation I compiled in 2007.
Other duties include my roles as the department’s infection control link nurse and fire warden for the department’ I also assist the tissue viability link nurse with the setting up of the role in this department. My hobbies include cooking; DIY; theatre; Aston Villa; and my two spoilt shar pei dogs.
