I am a band 2 healthcare assistant working in the Department of Infection at Birmingham Heartlands Hopsital where the HIV service is based. I work in a team of three health care assistants, and my role is to assist the qualified nurses in clinic and help to prepare patients for their consultations. I take patients’ weight, height and blood pressure and obtain urine specimens for testing.
The healthcare assistants also have a large role in sourcing and preparing patients notes for the various clinics held in the department throughout the week.I have worked in the department and the HIV service for approximately three years, and prior to this I spent many years working in a care home.
