Welcome to Ward 28, Infectious Diseases Unit. We are a 31 bedded ward, consisting of two bays of 5 beds, one male, one female and 21 side rooms, of which 2 are negative pressure rooms for isolation purposes.
Patient age ranges from 16 to the very elderly.
We are a general medical ward and specialise in a variety of infectious conditions, ranging from tonsillitis to TB and Malaria
Our Infectious Diseases Consultants are: Dr Ellis, Dr Dedicoat, Dr Moran, Dr Jenkins and Dr Short and we have inks with Hawthorn House the sexual infection unit based at Heartlands Hospital and the HIV Clinic.
Our ward is run by ward manager: Senior Sister Gill Upton. There are three junior sisters: Sister Pat Sullivan, Sister Alison Malins and Sister Kristy Brennan.
Nurse staffing aim to be 5 qualified on the Early and Late shifts and 4 qualified on the Night shift, with 3 HCA on all shifts.
We encourage the education of all students including nursing, medical or the professions allied to medicine.

Visiting times are 14.00-16.00 and 19.30-20.30.
Visitors are allowed open visiting at the discretion of the nurse taking care of the patient and the ward manager/nurse in charge.
Visitors are initially encouraged to attend the ward between 9.30-11.30am for patients who are unable to relay accurate histories i.e.) confused, vulnerable or limited English.
